Rosslyn Automotive Hub (Tshwane Automotive SEZ)
South Africa's automotive nerve centre — where BMW, Nissan, and Ford build for Africa and the world.
The Rosslyn Automotive Hub in Tshwane (Pretoria) is one of Africa's most concentrated automotive manufacturing clusters, anchored by BMW South Africa's Rosslyn plant, Nissan's Rosslyn factory, and supported by the Tshwane Automotive Special Economic Zone (SEZ). BMW has produced vehicles in Rosslyn since 1973 and currently manufactures the 3 Series exclusively for the South African and sub-Saharan African market, along with the X3 for global export. Nissan produces the Navara pickup and NP200 at its adjacent facility. The Tshwane Automotive SEZ, established to attract component manufacturers, provides purpose-built facilities for Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers, strengthening the local automotive value chain and increasing local content.
- 01Anchor world-class automotive manufacturing in South Africa with BMW and Nissan as flagship producers
- 02Attract automotive component suppliers to the Tshwane Automotive SEZ to increase local content
- 03Produce vehicles for domestic, continental, and global export markets under the APDP II programme
- 04Create and sustain thousands of high-skilled manufacturing jobs in the Tshwane region
- 05Develop the skills pipeline for South Africa's automotive sector through training partnerships

What it means for the community
The Rosslyn Automotive Hub directly employs over 6,000 people at BMW and Nissan plants combined, with thousands more in the supplier cluster and SEZ. BMW alone exports approximately 70% of its Rosslyn production to over 40 countries, generating significant foreign exchange. The Tshwane Automotive SEZ is attracting new investment that deepens the local supply chain and increases the percentage of locally manufactured components. The hub is a cornerstone of South Africa's automotive sector, which contributes approximately 4.9% of GDP and is the country's largest manufacturing exporter.
